Think about ingredients that will boost your shake's protein content. For example, you could throw a handful of nuts into the blender for a little extra protein without making the shake much thicker. You could add a few raw egg whites (if you are worried about eating raw eggs you may be able to find treated egg whites in cartons at your supermarket). You could always simply dump an extra scoop of whey powder in there as well.
Make sure you have enough liquids. If you get a little too carried away you may discover your shake is easier to eat with a spoon then drink from a glass. When you first start creating your shakes it is a good idea to add your liquids (water, fat-free milk, fruit juices, etc.) in stages so that you get your desired consistency.
Examine the nutritional information for each ingredient and consider the impact it will have on your dieting goals. For example, you may be opting for fat free (skimmed) milk if you aren't trying to gain weight.
Always know what your goal is and make your shakes accordingly. If you are trying to shed the fat you will be skipping the types of ingredients that add too many carbohydrates and fats while trying to increase the protein content.
Think of how you might create a unique flavor. You can try things like cinnamon, vanilla, honey, coconut milk, etc. Once you get the hang of this you will see the possibilities are endless.

Once you have decided on the ingredients for your shake you are ready to start. It couldn't be simpler and if you can make toast you won't have a problem. It's a good idea to think about the order in which you will add your ingredients into the blender. Always add your main liquid source first so that everything else you add afterwards is easily blended. Following this, add your protein powder and give your blender a quick 'burst'. Now you are ready to add the rest of your ingredients and blend until you get the right consistency. At this point you may want to add a little more liquids to tweak your shake's thickness. Throw in five or six ice cubes to make your shake more refreshing.

I was invited by my good friend and wealth planner, Alice Phua, to a talk today about how to avoid the pitfalls on estate planning. I did not know what to expect when I was going for the talk and thought that it should not be anything relevant to me since I have my finances in place and my will drafted out since last year.

The Revokable Trust: Is it Really Revocable?

The revokable trust, really spelled as the revocable trust, or the revocable living trust, but many refer to as the revokable trust or the revokable living trust, is a very popular and common estate planning tool. But is it really revocable? You may be surprised.

First off, what makes it a revokable trust? Basically, the right to revoke means the right to terminate the trust as to one or all of the assets that are held in the trust.

If the trust is a revokable trust, it also includes the right to modify the terms of the trust.

However, what many people often don't realize, until it is too late, is that many revokable trusts contain language that converts the revokable trust, in whole or in part, into one or more irrevocable trusts.

This is done usually through the use of the AB irrevocable trust language many revokable trusts contain. This is done typically after one spouse dies and is used for estate tax planning. I read once that if you took all the real estate lawyers in Illinois and laid them end to end along the equator - it would be a good idea to leave them there. That's what I read. What do you suppose that means?

I have written before about the need to exercise due diligence when purchasing commercial real estate. The need to investigate, before Closing, every significant aspect of the property you are acquiring. The importance of evaluating each commercial real estate transaction with a mindset that once the Closing occurs, there is no going back. The Seller has your money and is gone. If post-Closing problems arise, Sellers contract representations and warranties will, at best, mean expensive litigation. CAVEAT EMPTOR! Let the buyer beware!

Paying extra attention at the beginning of a commercial real estate transaction to get it right can save tens of thousands of dollars when the deal goes bad. Its like the old Fram oil filter slogan during the 1970s: You can pay me now - or pay me later. In commercial real estate, however, later may be too late.

Buying commercial real estate is NOT like buying a home. It is not. It is not. It is NOT.

In Illinois, and many other states, virtually every residential real estate closing requires a lawyer for the buyer and a lawyer for the seller. This is probably smart. It is good consumer protection.

The problem this causes, however, is that every lawyer handling residential real estate transactions considers himself or herself a real estate lawyer, capable of handling any real estate transaction that may arise.

We learned in law school that there are only two kinds of property: real estate and personal property. Therefore we intuit if we are competent to handle a residential real estate closing, we must be competent to handle a commercial real estate closing. They are each real estate, right?

ANSWER: Yes, they are each real estate. No, they are not the same.

The legal issues and risks in a commercial real estate transaction are remarkably different from the legal issues and risks in a residential real estate transaction. Most are not even remotely similar. Attorneys concentrating their practice handling residential real estate closings do not face the same issues as attorneys concentrating their practice in commercial real estate.

It is a matter of experience. You either know the issues and risks inherent in commercial real estate transactions - and know how to deal with them - or you dont.

A key point to remember is that the myriad consumer protection laws that protect residential home buyers have no application to and provide no protection for buyers of commercial real estate.

Competent commercial real estate practice requires focused and concentrated investigation of all issues material to the transaction by someone who knows what they are looking for. In short, it requires the exercise of due diligence".

I admit the exercise of due diligence is not cheap, but the failure to exercise due diligence can create a financial disaster for the commercial real estate investor. Dont be penny wise and pound foolish.

If you are buying a home, hire an attorney who regularly represents home buyers. If you are buying commercial real estate, hire an attorney who regularly represents commercial real estate buyers.

Years ago I stopped handling residential real estate transactions. As an active commercial real estate attorney, even I hire residential real estate counsel for my own home purchases. I do that because residential real estate practice is fundamentally different from commercial real estate.

Maybe I do harp on the need for competent counsel experienced in commercial real estate transactions. I genuinely believe it. I believe it is essential. I believe if you are going to invest in commercial real estate, you must apply your critical thinking skills and be smart.

Scenario No. 1:Its Valentines Day. You are in hot pursuit of the love of your life. A few weeks ago, she confided in you that all she ever dreamed of for Valentines Day was that her lover would show up at her door, dressed in a white tuxedo with tails and a top hat, and present her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Youve rented the tuxedo, but now you are concerned about how much money you are spending.

TRUE OR FALSE: Since flowers are pretty much all the same, it is OK for you to skip the roses and show up with a bouquet of fresh yellow dandelions.

Scenario No. 2: For several years you eyesight deteriorated to the point where you can barely see your alarm clock. You are now considering corrective eye surgery so you wont need glasses. TRUE OR FALSE: Since surgeons all went to medical school and are all medical doctors, you are being frugal and wise by asking the surgeon who performed your hemorrhoid surgery to perform your corrective eye surgery.

Scenario No. 3:Several years ago, when you first got married, you asked a former classmate who is a lawyer to represent you in the purchase of your townhome. The cost was only $375. A year later, you started a family and decided you needed a Will. The same attorney prepared Wills for you and your wife for a total cost of $700. You started your own business and your attorney friend formed a corporation for you and charged you only $600 plus the cost of the corporate minute book. Years later, when your son was arrested for misdemeanor reckless driving, your attorney friend handled the criminal case and got your son off with supervision for only $1,500.

Your business has been successful and you have built a pretty sizable nest egg, but you are tired of working for every dime and want to try investing in real estate. You have your eye on a strip shopping center. It includes a grocery store, bank, hardware store, dry cleaners (on a month to month tenancy), a couple of fast food restaurants, a gift shop, dental office, bowling alley (with a lease about to expire), and wraps behind a gas station/mini-mart on the corner. The purchase price is $8,000,000, but the net operating income looks pretty good. You figure if you turn the bowling alley into a full service restaurant/banquet facility, and convert the dry cleaners into a 24-hour coin laundry, the net operating income will increase and the shopping center will turn into a spectacular investment. You plan to pull together much of your life savings and put down $2,000,000 to buy this strip shopping center, borrowing the balance of $6,000,000. You remember that your lawyer friend handled the purchase of your home several years ago, so you know he handles real estate.

TRUE OR FALSE: Commercial real estate is the same as residential real estate [Hey, its all dirt, isnt it (?)], so you are being a shrewd businessman by hiring your lawyer friend who will charge much less than a lawyer who handles shopping center purchases several time a year. [What is this due diligence stuff anyway?]

The Lowdown on Windows XP Slowdown

Remember when your system was brand new and you were amazed on how fast it ran. Then over time it gradually slowed down to slow crawl. There are several reasons for this lack of performance which include: viruses, spyware, adware, system memory management.

Protecting your computer from viruses is fairly straight forward. If your system connects to the Internet, network, or has access to removable media, you absolutely need anti-virus software running at all times. This program must have up-to-date virus definition; which is basically a list of the most current viruses that gives the anti-virus program a means to identify the threat. Finally, to insure a virus free system a scheduled weekly full system scan that looks at the entire file system for threats is required.

To avoid spyware and adware refrain from downloading shareware and freeware program. Also be careful about downloading music. Many music downloads contain spyware. Its good to have a program that checks for spyware and adware, but its better to have an anti-virus program that also checks for these types of threats. That way you are only running one program that does it all.

Last but not least to maintain a high level of performance system memory must be managed. Your computer uses two types of system memory, physical memory which is fast and virtual memory which is much slower. Physical memory or RAM (random access memory) is attached to your motherboard. Virtual memory or page file is the amount of hard drive space that is put a side and used when your system runs out of RAM.

Windows XP requires a great deal of RAM to run efficiently. Most Windows XP systems are sold with 256MB or even 128MB to keep the cost down. But to run XP with more than one application open you should have 512MB of RAM. To check and see how much RAM your system has, go to Control Panel and click on the System icon. On the General Tab the amount of RAM will be listed. To check and see if your system requires more RAM use Windows Task Manager. To open this utility, press Ctrl + Alt + Del and then click on the Performance Tab. If the size of the PF usage (virtual memory) is higher than the available memory (RAM), your system will run slow and you need to increase the amount of RAM on your system to increase performance.

After determining the amount of RAM is sufficient there are a couple of utilities with Windows XP that should be run on a regular basis to maintain peek performance. These utility programs can be found by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, and System Tools. First, use Disk Cleanup and remove unnecessary files to increase disk space. Then run Disk Defragmenter to enable data to be accessed faster from the hard drive. Finally, use a registry cleaner like Registry Mechanic. Registry Mechanic is an advanced registry cleaner for Windows that can safely clean, repair and optimize your registry in a few simple mouse clicks. "The 2007 median price for an existing home likely will decline 0.7 percent to $220,300, the first drop since the real estate trade group began keeping records in 1968 and probably the first decline since the Great Depression," said Lawrence Yun, an economist with the Chicago-based association

Estate Planning - Estate Taxes

Estate tax, or the death tax as it is sometimes referred to, is an issue often bandied about at election time. If the innuendoes of the sound bites are to be believed, the instant someone dies, the government collects a huge amount of tax from the estate just as a general principle. The specter of estate tax is looming in the corner of every hospital room in America, or so goes the story, waiting to deprive widows of their husbands hard-earned pensions and children of their college funds, if Mr. X is not elected to Congress or the White House.

While it is true that a decrease in estate tax benefits the wealthiest two percent of Americans, it is also true that only the wealthiest two percent of Americans are subject to estate tax to begin withat least under present law.

Estate taxes are taxes assessed on property transferred at the time of death. They are based on the gross estate, including real estate, insurance, trusts, annuities, cash, business interests, securities, and all other assets. The items are not assessed at their value at the time they were purchased, but rather at their fair market value at the time of death. For example, if you purchased a home for $50,000 in 1970 and the value of the property has appreciated in the meantime to be worth $175,000 based on sales of comparable properties in the same neighborhood, estate taxes would be assessed on the present worth of $175,000.

Once the gross estate is calculated, applicable deductions are subtracted from that value. Deductions include property that passes to surviving spouses, mortgages and other debts, and estate administration expenses. In some cases the value of operating business interests or farms may be reduced, according to the IRS, for estates that qualify. The value arrived at after deductions is referred to as the taxable estate. Lifetime gifts are added back in and an available unified credit is applied before the estate tax is actually assessed. The good news for most of us is that your taxable estate, as an individual, must exceed $1,000,000 for estate tax to apply, as the law currently stands.

The federal Tax Act of 2001 changed several provisions of the law regarding estate taxes. The rate at which estate taxes were assessed in 2001 was 55% of the gross estate less all applicable exemptions. The 2001 Tax Act began stepping estate taxes down gradually in 2002 to the present rate of 46% in 2006 and on down to 0% in 2010.

The premise behind the 2001 Tax Act is that some of the revenue lost to the U.S. Government through reduction and eventual abolishment of the estate tax will be recouped by capital gains taxes that your heirs will have to pay if and when they dispose of the property bequeathed to them. Prior to 2001, heirs automatically received a full basis step-up to fair market value on inherited property and did not have to pay capital gains tax when they sold the property. At present, heirs do not enjoy that benefit. If, for example, you paid $60,000 for five acres of land in 1965 and you leave it to your son or daughter when you die. The son or daughter sells the land for $200,000 in 2006 and has to pay capital gains tax on $140,000, or the difference between what you paid for it at the time of purchase and the fair market value at the time it was sold.

Needless to say, estate tax issues are extremely complicated and, if you fall into the category of wealth that would require payment of estate taxes on your demise, be sure to discuss them with your attorney or other estate planner.

The NFL Draft and the Dallas Cowboys

One of the biggest days for the National Football League is upon us - the annual spring draft. The 2007 National Football League Draft will take place in New York City on April 28 and 29, 2007. As always, speculation revolves around who will be the number one draft pick for 2007. The Oakland Raiders have the first draft choice overall with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals rounding out the top five.

This year the Dallas Cowboys have the twenty-second pick in the first round of the draft with 10 picks in all, one in each of the seven rounds as well as an extra pick in the sixth and two extra picks in the seventh due to past trades. The team is hoping that seven or eight of the drafted players will make this years 53-man roster.

Building a team though the draft can be a hit and miss endeavor that takes skill, knowledge and some luck. Since their entrance into the NFL, as an expansion team in 1960, the Dallas Cowboys have done more than all right by the draft. They have consistently demonstrated an ability to choose talent in the draft which blossoms into a full-fledged all-star.

From their first participation in the NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys have had success. The first ever draft pick in Dallas Cowboys franchise history was made in 1961 when the team chose, out of Texas Christian University, star defensive tackle and first draft pick overall Bob Lilly. Known affectionately as Mr. Cowboy, Lilly was the first Cowboys Ring of Honor recepient at Texas Stadium.

Selected by the Dallas Cowboys, Ed Too Tall Jones, out of the Tennessee State University, was the number one overall draft pick of the 1970 NFL draft. Jones had a successful career with the team as a defensive end and was named the NFL Defensive MVP in 1982. He is one of only three players to have played for the Dallas Cowboys franchise for fifteen years.

In 1977 the Cowboys selected, second overall, running back Tony Dorsett from the University of Pittsburgh. Dorsett made an instant impression in his first year, finishing with Rookie of the Year honors and a Super Bowl Championship. The success continued as Dorsett went on to rush for over 1000 yards in eight of his first nine seasons (missing the mark in 1982, due only to a strike-shortened season). He was elected to both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

The Cowboys again found great success when in the 1988 draft, out of the University of Miami, they chose Michael Irvin 11th overall in the first round of the 1988 draft. Irvin spent his whole career with the Cowboys and is regarded as one of the best wide receivers ever in the National Football League. He is also the only player in Dallas Cowboys history to have the distinction of having played for each of the first four coaches of the team - Landry, Johnson, Switzer and Gailey.

In 1989, with the first pick in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys chose the projected no. 1 overall pick, UCLA quarterback Troy Aikman. Despite a slow start Aikman went on to lead the team to three Super Bowl Championships and was inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame

With the 17th overall draft pick in1990, the Dallas Cowboys chose running back Emmitt Smith out of the University of Florida. Smith would prove to be yet another outstanding selection for Cowboys football as he went on to set countless records with the team. He currently holds the NFL record in career rushing yards of 18,355 and is the only player in NFL history to rush for over 18,000 yards.

Through the years the Dallas Cowboys have picked wisely in the NFL draft and have had great success in choosing players who have gone on to become not only NFL all-stars but Dallas Cowboys legends as well. I have been outdoor rock climbing for years. Finding the right rock climbing equipment is pretty easy after you get used to it. What's the Most Popular Second Language English Speakers Choose to Learn?

A look into the language courses people are searching for online reveals some curious things.

Overture provides a research tool that allows web developers to work out what people have been typing into the search engines over the last month. Being involved in language teaching, I ran a search on the 12 July 2007. This isn't scientifically well founded research, but it is interesting.

Looking for what language courses people have been searching for, the top search is for English with 2,762 searches. Wow, remember these are searches in an English search engine. You'd have thought if someone spoke Spanish they'd use a Spanish language search engine wouldn't you? Maybe people just use what comes with their browser. Perhaps what this is saying is that people in English speaking countries want English language courses, so maybe that's not so surprising.

What comes next is a surprise too: Italian (2,160). There are about 61 million Italian speakers, and not much information on how many speak it as a second language in Wikipedia's list of languages by number of native speakers. Basically it shows Italian as 19th most popularly spoken language worldwide. So why is it the second most popular search? Perhaps Italian culture is well regarded internationally. Could it be Italian football, Italian restaurants, even The Sopranos that's driven this so high?

Next up is Spanish (1,266). That seems to make sense. For English speakers, Spanish is the world's next most popular language that's close to our own, and many of us holiday in Spanish speaking countries or work with Spanish speaking colleagues.

Quite a few people (792) would like to learn Japanese. The only person I know who learned some Japanese is an academic who, I fear, chose it in a narrow contest over Klingon as a dinner party curiosity.

The results from a search on "learn language" are different. This time it shows 7,788 wanting to learn Spanish, and the second most popular language (3,374) is sign language.

Now, there are lots of sign languages, including English and American which are mutually unintelligable, and very little information on how many 'speakers' there are for each, but the British Deaf Association thinks up to 250,000 people use some BSL every day. If Americans do so in the same proportion, that would make 1,238,724 daily 'speakers' which makes it slightly more popular worldwide than Bai, spoken in parts of China, and a little less popular than Makonde, spoken by the people of Mozambique and Tanzania. But that's unfair .. people are much more likely in the UK or America to come across someone who signs than someone who speaks Makonde. All of which makes sign language an interesting alternative second language to Spanish, French, Italian and so on. Just in case it's not clear, sign language is a proper language.

Another language I was expecting to see people wanting courses in is Chinese, given all the publicity about China being a burgeoning economy and all the trade we are doing with that country, but no-one seemed to want a Chinese language course. However, in the 'learn language' search, Chinese came up quite high with 3,374 seekers.

And the wildcard? Korean. 1,360 people a month want to learn the Korean language. I don't know why.

Pre-Money vs. Post-Money Valuation

When a company decides that it must raise capital, a key question that must be answered is how much the company is worth. For example, if the business needs $500,000 to get started and/or grow, how much of the equity in that company should $500,000 command? Once this question is answered, the company will go out and try to find investors. When doing so, a key question often arises as to whether the valuation is pre-money or post-money.

Before the money" or pre-money and "after the money" or post-money denote simple concepts. However, these simple concepts can even confuse even the most sophisticated analysts at times. If a company is valued at $1 million on Day 1, then 25 percent of the company is worth $250,000. However, there may be an ambiguity. Suppose the company and the investor agree on two terms: (1) a $1 million valuation, and (2) a $250,000 equity investment. In this case, the company may offer the investor 250 shares for $250,000. Immediately there can be a disagreement. The investor may have thought that equity in the company was worth $1,000 per percentage point, in which case $250,000 gets 250 out of 1,000 shares or a 25% equity position. Conversely, the company may have believed that the investor was contributing to the enterprise which was already worth $1 million. Under this rationale, the $250,000 would give the investor 250 shares out of 1,250 shares or a 20% equity position.

The critical issue was whether the agreed value of $1 million to be assigned to the company was prior to or after the investor's contribution of cash (pre-money) or post-money.

In the above case, a pre-money valuation of $1 million and a post-money valuation of $1.25 million were equivalent. Because mixing up the terms could significantly increase the cost of capital raised, companies must be sure to understand the two metrics and agree with investors to the metric that raises them the capital at the appropriate price.

Is Your Homeowner's Insurance Giving You Protection from Flood Damage or Losses

The first thing that surprises many people about flood insurance is that everybody is actually considered to live in a flood zone according to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) - its simply a question of whether you are at low, moderate or high risk of flooding. Obviously some people, depending on where they live, are at greater risk than others.

And another surprise is that even people who live in areas not particularly prone to floods may be at risk from flooding - around 30% of claims for flood damage come from areas that are considered low to moderate risk. And during a 30 year mortgage, a typical home has about a 25% chance of being damaged by a flood.

Many homeowners are also surprised to learn that flood insurance is not included under their regular homeowner's insurance policy or renter's policy. And a surprising statistic is that in general, you are 30 times more likely to lose your home to a flood than a fire. Every year around $2.4 billion is paid out in insurance claims for flood damage or losses.

A flood can mean any kind of water damage or damage from mud, poor drainage or seepage. Much flooding is caused by winter storms, melting snow and hurricanes - things which many people tend to overlook. Just an inch of water can potentially cause costly property damage and a car can be swept away in just two feet of water.

Because most policies don't cover flood damage, Congress established the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in 1968. This program allows people who may be at risk from flooding to purchase adequate insurance - even after the flood or water damage has occurred.

Several companies offer flood insurance - always make sure the company you choose is backed by the NFIP. This ensures you will be adequately protected in the case of flood damage. This is one type of insurance you shouldn't take out at the last minute - one disadvantage with the program is that after you have taken out flood insurance, there is a 30 day waiting period before any coverage takes effect.

As with other products and services, always shop around when comparing policies. The internet has made it just as easy to compare prices on line as it is to call around the various companies. Around 5 million people in the United States have some form of flood insurance and the average monthly premium is around $350 per year.

Take into account the amount of coverage you will receive in the event of a flood, as well as the amount of the monthly premiums. Make sure that there are no exclusions to the policy that may affect you. And make sure your insurance company can easily be contacted if and when you need them.

Most flood insurance policies will cover the costs of replacing or repairing both property and goods in the event of any damage. Contents can include furniture, clothes, rugs and carpets and other possessions - even the food in your freezer.

Contents and buildings both generally have separate deductibles (the amount you must pay before the insurance covers the costs) - so if both your property and contents are damaged by flooding, you will have to pay both deductibles.

So even though you may not obviously live in a high risk flood area, consider taking out flood insurance. Like most insurance, you hope to never use it - but it's comforting to know it is there.

Are you the lucky owner of a lemon?

If you think your car is a lemon, then you probably feel like you're always in the repair shop for the same repair over and over again. Sure the repair is covered under the vehicle warranty or extended warranty, but it's always in the shop!

If it seems your car is in the repair shop time and time again for the same repair, you may be the lucky owner of a lemon. Fortunately, your state has recourse for you, so get started protecting yourself right away.

Both the lemon law and an extended warranty can benefit you when you have purchased a new or used vehicle that appears to have defects that cannot be remedied by repeated repairs.

If you chose to purchase an extended warranty, know your rights given to you under the warranty, and be thorough in your inquiries. Be aware that if you decided to purchase an extended warranty with your vehicle, you may not be covered by the lemon law in your state.

If you chose not to purchase the warranty, know your rights under the lemon law, and immediately contact a lemon law attorney if you feel your rights have been violated.

And if your car is determined to be a lemon, can you legally sell your lemon? Though it may not always be easy to sell your car following a lemon law battle, do not despair. As long as you disclose all pertinent facts, legally you can sell that lemon!

One important resource which is sometimes overlooked is an insurance broker. Independent insurance brokers work on your behalf to find the best possible deals to suit you. They'll be able to search though the market to locate the most competitive prices available, meaning that you don't have to spend hours on the phone or online looking for quotes yourself. This can save a considerable amount of time, as insurance companies require a large amount of information in order to create a quote.

Also remember that insurance brokers are experts in their field and can therefore quickly find and compare insurance quotes. And because they are obliged to search the whole market, you can be sure that their recommendation will be the one that best suits your needs, and not biased or skewed due to other business considerations.

Another advantage of using an insurance broker is that you get to deal with a real human being. Many larger insurers have implemented automated response units to deal with requests from potential customers. And finally, an insurance broker will fight your corner with an underwriter, should you need to make a claim - so not only can they get you the best deals, they also come with added peace of mind.

A Beautiful Mind - Genius and Madness Are Close Neighbours

Have you seen A Beautiful Mind with Russell Crowe ? The film is based on a true story about a brilliant mathematician coming to grips with schizophrenia, and it won four Academy Awards in 2001.

Ive seen it a second time last week and was again captivated not only by Crowes performance, but especially by the fascinating illustration of how powerful the human mind is.

While Professor Nash teaches at a famous American university, he is approached by secret service agents to decipher a code which the enemies of democracy use for their subversive activities, threatening national security. For years he works with the agents, exploring millions of connections and possibilities to uncover the mystery - until his wife finds out about his hidden life and supports him on the way out of the mess.

It turns out that all the persons involved in the undercover plot are totally fictitious, they only existed in the Professors mind - so real for him, that he had developed a complete second identity around his scenario. His weird behaviour under these circumstances was obviously labeled 'madness' by his 'normal' peers - and yet he won a Nobel Prize for his academic work a few years later.

Genius and madness are close neighbours, they say - assuming for a minute that you and I dont fall into either of these categories, what is the lesson for 'normal' people here ? As far as Im concerned, I show more consideration for the unusual conduct of people these days.

Who am I to judge others for things I dont understand ? I know that I have some blind spots, and may be that odd fellow I saw in the mall yesterday is a genius working out the quadrature of the circle.

Whats more, I am reminded that I, too live in my own world - like you do in yours.

A lot of things occupy my mind every day which directly influence my actions because I am absolutely convinced that they are perfectly sensible.

Most of the time you wouldnt find strange what I do, I suppose, but I am sure that some people wonder who the fool is that spends an hour on a perfect Sunday afternoon writing articles like this.

Whats on your mind ? Do you want to be president of your bowling club ? Climb Mount Kilimanjaro ? Thats OK, but I personally couldnt be bothered.

The point is that we are who we think we are, literally. I am not a professor, and I dont want to win the Nobel Prize - but I want to write and thats OK, too. Who knows, may be theyll give me the Pulitzer Prize one of these days - call me crazy.

Welfare And Healthcare Of Illegal Aliens

Each year immigrants use the services of the welfare and healthcare system in the United States resulting in billions of dollar being spent every year on their care. This comes straight from the Licenses for Immigrants offices.

The question arises-is this fair to the United States citizens who are legal residents? The legal residents pay the bill in one way or another, it might come out of your pocket directly, but you see in your taxes. The other question that arises from this particular dilemma - should we deny people in need of medical and public assistance.

The Current Status Of Illegal Aliens

If an illegal alien lives in this country, they cannot apply for and receive any form of public assistance. This however does not stop them from falsifying their information to receive assistance. If the alien is legal in the United States, they can receive benefits under some strict guidelines. This does involve a waiting period. This has not changed the problem with illegal immigrants coming into the country.

Background Information

Immigrants can obtain false papers stating they are legal to this country. If they do not have this paperwork, they cannot receive welfare, medical assistance, food stamps and other services offered by the government.

It is not hard for illegal immigrants to obtain the proper paperwork claiming them as US citizens. It has become a big business in the United States. If they are in need of medical services, area hospitals and walk-in clinics do not ask for proof of identification clarifying they are a US citizen. If you have a name and a made up Social Security number you can be treated in the medical facility.

Even if hospitals know they are illegal immigrants, they will treat them and not deny medical services. It is also important to know that they do not report them to the authorities as well. This is their way of providing medical care to everyone without the fear of being caught and detain before being deported. Only small amounts of illegal aliens are deported because of limited resources from governments. The more important cases are sought out such as criminals and people who break laws.

In 1996, the new law made it impossible to come to this country and receive food stamps, Medicaid and welfare without a long waiting period. Before the law, legal aliens could apply for benefits and receive them right away. This has cut down on the taxpayers paying for illegal aliens living on government assistance.

Before, immigrants had to have family sponsor them and provide documentation of support and income while promising to support them entirely while on the waiting list, which could take up to ten years. The supporting family reimbursed any government support. Under the 1996 law, some benefits were restored. This was only for certain things, which still has the advocates for immigration, human and civil rights feeling they still have a long road ahead.

Basic Contract Principles

Lets start with basic contract law. In order to have a Contract, there must first be an Offer. The Offer can be an offer for a good or a service or almost anything else for that matter. In Example 1, A offers to by a car from B for $1,000. In example 2, X says to Z If you pay me $50 I will paint that room. Clearly both of those statements are Offers. For the most part, the Offer will be along the lines of someone promising to do something, buy something or give up something.

The next step in Contract formation is called an Acceptance. The Acceptance regarding the above scenarios would be Bs reply Yes, I will sell you my car for $1,000" or Zs reply Yes, I will pay you $50 to paint the room. Take note that a Counter-Offer will not act as an Acceptance, but rather as a Rejection. Referring to the above scenarios, B says I will sell you my car for $1,200 instead of $1,000". This is a rejection of the initial offer, and becomes a Counter - Offer to A. A must now choose to Accept or Reject Bs Counter - Offer. If A rejects the Counter - Offer, the Original Offer is no longer on the table. The process must begin again.

The third aspect of Contract formation is called Consideration. Consideration means that something of value must be exchanged. The Consideration in the car scenario for A would be receiving the car. The Consideration for B would be receiving the $1,000. Consideration in a Contract must be mutual, that is, both parties must receive something of value. Take note, that the value need not be equal or necessarily fair. A can offer to buy Bs new Corvette for $1,000. If B Accepts, then a Contract will be made, even though it should be obvious that this is not a fair deal. That sums up Basic Contract Principles.

VAWA - A Solution to Immigrants in Abusive Relationships

On January 6, 2006 the President signed the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) into law. VAWA is a very powerful piece of legislation that has been successful in protecting abused spouses and children. Moreover, VAWA has very definite provisions to protect immigrants in abusive relationships from loosing their status in the United States or getting deported from the United States. This article is to be limited in scope and covers briefly VAWA as it pertains to immigration law only.

Who can use or benefit from VAWA?

Although VAWA stands for Violence Against Women Act, it applies to all spouses including abused men and children. A VAWA petition can be filed in situations where the spouse of the US citizen or Permanent Residence has abused the alien. Abuses do not always have to be physical. Abuse can be mental, psychological, physical, or a combination of all the above. In fact, many abuses are psychological and sometimes leave long lasting scars. For instance, Anita is Married to Ram who is a US citizen. Ram knowing that Anita is alone in the United States and depending on him to obtain a green card takes advantage of Anita. Ram will regularly make insulting comments to Anita. When Anita tries to answer the insult, Ram will be threatening on calling the Immigration Services on her.

Note that Ram never hits Anita or physically abuses Anita. However, Anita is scared and humiliated. She stays in the relationship not only because she fears deportation but also that her family at home will not welcome her back as a divorcee. As time goes by Anita gets bitter and desperate. She feels she has no way out of this relationship especially because she will have to leave the United States if she leaves her husband. Anita gets more and more depressed and feels like committing suicide. This example is quite common in South Asian communities even if it might be an extreme example of psychological abuses. The question is whether Anita can leave her husband, go to a shelter and stay in the US? Well, the short answer is yes provided Anita qualifies for a VAWA self petition.

What are the requirements to qualify for a VAWA petition?

In simple terms there are three requirements to prove that you are eligible for a VAWA petition:

1.You had a bona fide marriage, that is, you entered a marriage in good faith with a United States citizen or permanent resident (green card holder) spouse ;
2.You were in an abusive relationship; and
3.You are a person of good moral character.

You are highly advised to document every of the above and to contact a licensed attorney who practices immigration law and is familiar with such cases. Indeed, preparing a VAWA abused case especially if it does not involve physical abuses can be a daunting task. Note that VAWA petitions can be filed during or before removal proceedings (deportations). Our office has successfully processed many of such cases.

What will happen to a VAWA self petitioner if he/she files such a petition?

Many abused immigrant are afraid to file such petitions because they think that the abusive spouses are going to hurt them by reporting them to the immigration services when they find out. They are wrong because VAWA has very specific provisions to protect the abused spouses and children legally. First VAWA is a highly confidential matter. Any kind of investigation will be done very discreetly. Second, there are special provisions under the Immigration Laws that prevent information from the abusive spouses and their families to be used against the abused immigrant. There are few exceptions to this. In fact, it is an offense punishable by fine if an immigration officer crosses lines drawn by VAWA. Therefore, if you find yourself in a potential VAWA situation you are highly recommended to consult an attorney or an experienced organization which can help you. Remember you do not have stay in abusive relationship!

Removal of Conditional Residence based on abusive relationship

If Anita entered into a marriage obtained a conditional green card and then starts experiencing abuses, she is also eligible to remove this conditional residence based on the abusive relationship. The removal of conditional residence is removed among other ways by filing the form I-751 and selecting that you are removing the conditional residence based on an abusive relationship. In this case, the laws under VAWA will apply.

So, people who are fats are busy in various kinds of weight loss programs. Anybody who is unhappy with their current size and shape is opting for weight loss programs. The best thing which can work for a fat person is exercise and balance diet. Exercising is the best way to lose weight. The benefits of exercise are immense. With balanced diet and right kind of exercises, you will be able to keep those unwanted pounds off. The most important point you should keep in mind is that diets alone and crash diets in themselves are the worst possible choice if you want to loose diet and keep it off permanently. In fact, there is a huge industry which is selling different kinds of crash diets the most popular among the list are Atkins Diet and South Beach Diet. These crash diets benefit you in the short run but it badly affects your overall health system in the long run.

The first and foremost thing you should do in your weight loss schedule is to change your eating habits. Start eating smaller portions of food or if you want to eat a full plate, eat only 2/3 of a plate instead. Eat your main large meal at midday with the other meals much smaller in content. Dont eat heavy meals late in the evening or the body wont have time to digest it so it ends up stored as fat in your body. Always eat balanced diet comprising of proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins. If you love sugar in Tea or Coffee, substitute aspartame for sugar and make it a point to drink skimmed milk instead of full cream milk. Drink lots of water during the day and before doing and after exercise, you should drink at least 8 big glass of water per 24 hours. Eat more fibres i.e. pulses, grams, nuts, brown rice, cereals and fresh fruits. Eat more vegetable as part of your diet.

Even if you are taking a balanced diet; there is still need to do exercises. It is necessary to warm up your body before exercising and at the end of exercise, you need to cool down. Start by aerobic exercises or by stretching exercises if you are in gym. Aerobics reduces fat and gives you a lean body. Work-out in gyms reduces your weight and also gives you stronger muscles. Do exercise at least thrice a week.

How many parents think about the fate of their childrens care if they (the parents) were to pass away at the same time? Most people do not like to think of a situation in which they would not be around to bring up their children, but it is important to plan for such as occurrence, however unlikely it might be.

In making provisions for the one's childrens care, an important consideration would be the appointment of a suitable guardian.

By appointing an individual or couple as guardian(s), usually via a will or a deed instrument, you're ensuring that your childs care will not be neglected during their bereavement. It is also a proactive step towards comprehensive estate planning.

But how do you appoint a guardian? What are the qualifications of a suitable guardian?

Appointing a guardian is easy; parents who have written their wills would not have missed the provision regarding the appointment of guardians for children below 21 years of age.

Legally one can appoint guardians through several channels, but the simplest and most cost-effective way is via a will. It makes more sense (to appoint in a will) instead of through a special deed document, for instance, as the cost of writing a will is inclusive of the guardianship portion.

The law doesn't require the testator to acquire a written or official consent from appointed guardians. However, for practical reasons and to avoid future disputes, it is best that you inform and obtain, at the very least, verbal approval from your chosen guardian. Thus, the guardian is fully prepared to look after the childs care if the sad situation arises.

However, note that an appointment is not legally binding on the guardian. Naming someone as a guardian doesn't bind the person legally. It's only an indication of the testator's preference. When it's time for the appointed guardian to assume the role, he can decline by citing valid reasons. There are no penalties.

Parents should note that the naming of guardians is crucial if they have young children who cannot fend for themselves if they're left orphaned. If parents die without a will, or with a will that does not address the issue of guardianship, the children will most likely be put under the care of the Welfare Department or placed in an orphanage.

For parents, the challenge lies in appointing suitable guardians. From the legal perspective, there are no stipulated criteria for suitable guardians. The law doesn't restrict anyone from appointing ones preferred persons as guardians. It's a matter that is close to the heart and the wrong decision will leave behind a lasting impact on the childs care. For this reason, testators must exercise sufficient care and caution.

It is advisable for couples to discuss and come to an agreement on the choice of guardians. This is to avoid disputes when the wills are executed. If the spouses name different persons, the matter will likely be referred to the court and a final decision will be taken based on the court order.

When appointing a guardian, the focus isn't so much on the material well - being but the ability of the person to provide adequate affection and a positive living environment for the children. It's more important for the person to have good parental instincts and capability.

The person should ideally be someone who will be able to love and care for your children just the way you do, maybe not in exactly the same way, but will put in that much of effort in carrying out the role.

The California Lemon Law states that if a purchased vehicle turns out to be defective in the warranty period rendering it unfit for use or inflicts some serious injuries to the user, then the consumer has every right to ask for refund or replacement.

If you purchase or lease a vehicle in California and then discover that it has defects that substantially affect its safety, use or value, California State Lemon Law may help you gain satisfaction from the vehicle's manufacturer. Under the California Lemon Law, new cars, leased cars, pre-owned cars, RV's, motor homes, motorcycles, boats and other consumer vehicles qualify for protection if they were accompanied by a written warranty. While the law cannot help everyone with a "lemon", and some people may have to hire an attorney to get their cases resolved, the law does create important rights for the consumers.

Circumstances in which the consumers seek protection under California Lemon Law:

The defect of the product is a manufacturing defect
The vehicle has been repaired at least four times and still the defect persists.
The defect is detected but not repaired within the period of 18 months or 18,000 miles.

There are several steps that the consumer must take to effectively use the lemon laws of California State. (1) Keep a detailed repair record, complete with dates of the repair attempts, when the vehicle was out of service, and a list that explains exactly what the trouble is, such as "cutting off" or "stalling"; (2) send a certified, return receipt requested letter to the manufacturer's consumer relations office and the manufacturer's nearest regional office listed in your manual; (3) after you have followed the previous steps and met the criteria as defined by your state's lemon law, request a refund or replacement, less depreciation, of the vehicle.

Differing from some laws in other states, the California Lemon Law allows unsatisfied car buyers to sell the defective vehicle, or to trade it in for a different automobile. To preserve the consumer rights outlined in the California Lemon Law, vehicles with warranty defects offered for sale must be accompanied by a written disclosure that declares the owner is aware of the automobiles defects (a written statement from a professional inspector is better), and the vehicle's manufacturer needs to be notified of the unsatisfied buyer's intention of sale or trade.

What are the best approaches for overcoming shyness in the workplace?

A manager who notices that one of his employees is quite shy should make an effort to draw him into group meetings and discussions. Do not worry - involving him more deeply into group interaction is good for him. Ask his opinion about office problems and issues, even in front of co-workers.

This will show him that you value his input. You may be surprised how much such a shy person can contribute, given the chance. At simple gatherings, such as when the staff takes a break to go to the cafeteria for lunch, try inviting the shy employee to your table for lunch. He may seem surprised at the offer, and even hesitate, but if it is the boss who asks, who can refuse? The employee will become more confident because of the attention and honor being shown to him.

A manager with a really introverted staffer can ask other people in the same department - particularly the nice, approachable ones - to help by also approaching the shy employee. They could invite their shy colleague to a weekend out with the rest of the staff. Some companies deliberately encourage their employees to form sports teams like softball and touch football teams that allow everyone to become weekend warriors. This gives people who are otherwise preoccupied with work from Monday to Friday to get to know one another better in their leisure time.

Effects of shyness:

Shyness is one cause of underemployment, or the state when a person is employed at a rank lower than his capabilities. This is because shy people give the impression that they are not capable of much more than the expectations of that low position. A shy person who wants to move up in the organization may find his shyness to be a barrier to promotion.

For example, if he wants to go up to the boss and ask for a raise or to be given a better job, he may discover himself to be tongue-tied and lose his nerve. Or he may think so poorly of his credentials and capabilities that he finds it difficult to promote himself as being the right person for the job he secretly eyes.

To be successful in overcoming shyness in the workplace, the shy person must be able to get the sympathy of people he works with. This will make it easier for him to overcome shyness.

Wireless routers allow flexibility and freedom for many internet users. With Wi-Fi, a person can sit at a coffee shop and start surfing the web as if they were connected to a phone jack or cable at home. Even today, some towns are going completely wireless so that anyone within the vicinity can access the net for free.

But with all the advantages that wireless routers provide there are things we should be mindful of when we decide to plug in the router. Wireless routers are not necessarily without their flaws. Here are few things to keep in mind.

If a person were to connect directly to the internet with a cable and compare that with the same connection, but with a wireless router, there would be a noticeable difference. The wireless connection will be slightly slower than the direct connection. The reason is simple; a Wi-Fi transmits through the air and there's some degradation with this medium. It's like comparing television reception between cable and antennas. Cable is obviously faster.

Possibly a huge concern with wireless routers and Wi-Fi is the encryption protocols. In some public Wi-Fi places (such as a local caf), the transmission is encryption free. This means that all of your private data stored in your laptop or PDA will be exposed to anyone in the same vicinity. It's possible that an unscrupulous person could obtain passwords and important personal information.

An older protocol for wireless routers is the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). Although it does have a level of encryption, the encryption can be easily compromised. The problem has caused a number of wireless router owners to upgrade to WPA and WPA2 encryption protocols.

With the increasing Wi-Fi hotspots in the neighborhood, Wi-Fi pollution is becoming more apparent. Sometimes stores or organizations will broadcast over the same channel, causing interference and lack of access points. Cities are just noticing this problem as more users are jumping into the wireless realm.

Other devices and equipment can also contribute to the pollution. Studies have shown that Bluetooth devices, cordless phones and microwave ovens all contribute to interference of public wireless transmissions. This is a known problem in high-density areas such as cities with many access points.

Wireless routers do not have a limitless range. As such, the broadcasting radius could be limited to just a 150 to 300 ft. If you want to improve the range, you'd have to purchase Wi-Fi antennas.

The wireless Wi-Fi realm is different to other mediums such as Bluetooth. The power consumption is much greater for devices using Wi-Fi through a wireless router or access point. People who use PDAs or laptops will burn through battery power.

Another problem is that for countries all over the world, you'll find differing spectrum assignments. The lack of consistency has caused problems for internet users traveling from country to country. In some instances, governments may prohibit use of certain channels or require special authorization.

There are many disadvantages of wireless routers and Wi-Fi, but the disadvantages should not necessarily stop a person to use the service. Consider the pros and cons of the wireless realm first before jumping into the world wide web.

Infringement Nightmare - Morals to the Story

True Story:

A photographer recently settled for $275,000 with the Dallas Cowboys after the Cowboys used one of his pictures on clothing and other merchandise without permission. But after the settlement was reached, the Cowboys barred the photographer from ever working in Texas Stadium where the Cowboys play.

The photographer had given a digital file of a photograph to the Cowboys who considered it for use on season tickets. The Cowboys then bought only 250 copies to resell as prints to the public. Later, the Cowboys used the same image on clothing and other items, without getting permission from the photographer for the additional usage. The photographer had not registered his photo with the U.S. Copyright Office.

When the photographer discovered the infringements and inquired about it, the Cowboys offered him $1,000 in merchandise gift certificates. After trying to negotiate a settlement on his own for about a year, he hired a lawyer. Three years later, a settlement was reached.

Morals of the story:

-Many infringements come from uses beyond that agreed to. The infringements can come from uses on different products, for longer terms, in extra forms such as print or electronic, in other locations, etc.

-Watch your clients use of your work closely.

-Register your images with the U.S. Copyright Office before you give, or within three months of giving, them to a client.

-Even if you havent registered your photographs with the U.S. Copyright Office, you are entitled to actual damages from infringements. They can be hard to prove, but sometimes they can add up to substantial sums.

-While you may be a good negotiator, it can help to have a lawyer to give weight to your position.

-If you have to sue a client, you probably wont get work from that client again.

-Legal matters can take time; be patient for your rewards.

Rapid Fat Loss - Is It Bad For Your Health?

Everyone wants to lose fat rapidly. It's only natural.

But sometimes, a too rapid fat loss may be unhealthy for you. It can also signify a danger to your body.

When you start to lose weight, it is important that you pay attention to the signals your body is sending you. If one of these signals appears, you may be on the wrong diet, one which may be harmful to your health:

1. Fatigue - If, after you've begun your diet, you start to feel tired all the time, require more sleep, can't seem to keep your eyes open and feel lethargic, you may be on the wrong diet. All of these signals may be induced by a lacking nutrition. If you're on a low carb, low fat, or low calorie diet, you should stop it for a few days, eat normally and see if your fatigue passes. If it does, you're following the wrong diet and may be damaging your health.

2. Lack of Concentration - If you start to feel that your concentration is wavering, that it's taking you longer than usual to make simple calculations or remembering things, you may be depriving your body of necessary nutrients. Again, if this occurs, put your diet on hold and see if you feel better.

3. Your overall appearance - When you go on a diet and start to lose weight, you're supposed to look better, not worse. If people are complimenting you on how you look that's a good sign, but if a friend or member of your family remarks negatively on how you look, it should be a red flag and you have to ask yourself why this is happening. It may signify that you're following a bad diet.

Losing fat rapidly is excellent and it can't be done in a safe and healthy manner. Make sure that you're eating enough and not starving yourself. If you starve yourself you may see some initial results, but these will be short termed. The damage to your health, however, may be more permanent.

Michael Vick is Done

It is official; Michael Vick is done with the rest of the NFL season. After deferring to his attorneys, the NFL quarterback has decided to accept a plea deal regarding the dog fighting operation. Vick will be spending at least ten months in jail for his actions. It was fairly obvious that Vick was headed to prison after a significant amount of incriminating evidence was found against him.

The defense attorney (Lawrence Woodward) for Michael Vick stated, Mike's accepting full responsibility. He's going to do everything he can personally and professionally to make this situation right. Another one of Michaels lawyers (Billy Martin) went on to say, After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick asks that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him. Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his action and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter. The Atlanta Falcons invested $ 130 million in Michael Vick, but it has come to no avail. Fortunately, the Falcons will be able to reclaim at least $ 22 million of that $ 130 million contract. To make matters worse, Vick will not be able to play in the NFL until the 2010 football season. More likely than not, the pro bowl quarterback will be waived from the Atlanta Falcons after serving time in jail.

Ticket sales will drastically plummet because Michael Vick was the box office attraction; moreover, he was the guy who filled the Georgia Dome with fans. The Michael Vick fiasco is like watching an episode of Cops. In virtually every episode of Cops, the criminal always denies that the drugs in the truck are his/hers. Furthermore, the criminals shrugs their shoulders and says I dont know how those drugs got there or those drugs arent mine or I was set up. In reality, the criminals always know how the drugs got there because they put them there. Similarly, Michael Vick is doing the same thing. The only difference is instead of drugs, Vick is using dogs. Initially, Michael denied he had anything to do with this transgression.

In reality, Mr. Vick knew how the dog killing equipment was at his property because he put them there. It appears that Michael Vick will not be barking out audibles at the line of scrimmage this NFL season (get it, I came up with that one all by myself). The old saying if you cant do the time, then dont do the crime is in full effect here. For violating the NFL conduct policy, Michael Vick will be violated in prison (unless he sent to a jail with cellmates that have erectile dysfunction). With or without Michael Vick, the Atlanta Falcons are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Eating Disorders - Anorexia Nervosa Effects

In this next article in our continuing series we're going to discuss the effects of Anorexia Nervosa on a person, as well as going over some facts and figures.

The main assault of this disease is that it focuses on self starvation. Since the body needs food as a basic means for survival, the effects of this disease are numerous to say the least. Because the body is not getting enough nutrition, it is forced to slow down in order to compensate for this. This slowing down can have serious consequences on a person's body.

There are a number of health consequences from Anorexia Nervosa. The main ones are as follows:

1. People suffering from this disease, after an extended period of time, suffer from an abnormally slow heart rate and very low blood pressure. This causes the heart muscle itself to change. The chance of heart failure rises as heart rate and blood pressure decrease.

2. Because of the lack of calcium in a person's diet, since they are not getting enough food in general, there is a great risk of reduced bone density, which is known as osteoporosis. This results in very dry and brittle bones which makes them very susceptible to breaking.

3. Again, because of the lack of nutrition, a person suffering from this disease will suffer from muscle weakness and potential muscle loss. This can lead to more serious muscular disorders.

4. Most people who suffer from this disease not only don't eat enough but also don't even drink enough water. This can result in severe dehydration which can ultimately lead to kidney failure.

5. Less serious symptoms, but certainly cause for concern, are overall weakness including fatigue and fainting, which in itself can be dangerous when behind the wheel of a car.

6. People suffering from this disease also suffer from thin and dry hair. Hair loss is very common.

7. Because of the overall deterioration of the body, a covering of hair begins to grow over the body in an effort to keep the body warm.

And now a few statistics about this disease that you may or may not be aware of.

a. About 90-95% of the people who suffer from this disease are women, most of them young girls.

b. About 1% of all American women suffer from Anorexia Nervosa.

c. Of all the psychiatric disorders, Anorexia Nervosa is the most common diagnosed in women in general.

d. The mortality rate of people suffering from Anorexia Nervosa is between 5 and 20%. The probability of death increases with the length of time the person has been suffering from the disease.

e. Anorexia Nervosa has one of the highest rates of death of all mental disorders.

f. The disease itself usually shows itself in early to mid adolescence.

The treatments for this disease are similar to the treatments for Bulimia. It is important that immediate psychiatric help is gotten for the sufferer. The quicker the diagnosis and treatment the greater the chance for survival.
